π Hello, friends! Dr. Molina here π¨βπ§
Welcome to Dr.Molina Newsletter, where I break down Magnetic design for you every week, in
4 minutesthe time needed.
The world is changing. The economic cycles drive the priorities of our lives. In 2021, everyone was excited, the pandemic ended, and there was a lot of money around. Familiesβ savings are at their peaks. Banks were giving credits with very low interest, and Venture capitalists had billions to invest in startups.
Iβm not an economist (thank god), we use to complain about the accuracy of our losses prediction; you can imagine how the economist felt in 2022, when all the valuations of the bigger technology companies of the world went down and the projected benefits of their investments disappeared.
Suddenly, thousands of companies in the USA started doing Layoffs. Hundred of thousands of engineers were fired. However, investors still have a lot of money waiting to be invested. But now, there are different rules. Efficiency of the money.
If you want to get funded, you need to show solid numbers and profitability on the horizon. This is very difficult for some companies, which strategy was based on crazy growth, hiring more people than needed, and forgetting about the basics of a business.
The cost of the goods should be less than your cost to produce them and the company's operating cost. Easy, no? Have you asked your manager if your team is profitable? At Frenetic, when we need to invest in something (time or goods) we ask,
Who does pay this?
As Power Electronics and Magnetic Manufacturers, we want to reduce the cost of our converters, but we donΒ΄t use to think of our own cost for the companies. The most important part of the company budget in engineering companies is engineers. This is the reason for a lot of layoffs. But what can we do? There is only one thing we can do. Become more efficient.
I remember during my Master's Degree, before the Ph.D. I needed to design inductors for an EMI filter, and I created my own spreadsheet (It was mineβ¦my creationβ¦). It took me two weeks of my time.
Two years later, another student was designing a similar filter, and you know what? He did the same. He created his own spreadsheet. I offered mine, but he has his own ideas; he wanted his spreadsheet!! He built his spreadsheet and learned how to build a spreadsheet for DM inductors. He couldnΒ΄t test before his internship finished.
However, there was another student who took my spreadsheet, and he finished the inductor design in one day. He had time to design, test, and iterate. He learned about EMI debugging a lot during the hardware phase. Today, he is the manager of Power Electronics in a great company.
The ROI concept
Sometimes, I have conversations with engineers who have to build an excel file for a specific magnetic, and they donΒ΄t realize how much time they invest there. They do not understand the Return on Investment (ROI) concept with their time.
The case of Frenetic is very clear. If you use Frenetic, you will save hours of calculations, understand the losses of your design, and have faster designs. Just some simple calculations:
Build a FEM model in COMSOL or ANSYS- 2 hours
Build a model in Frenetic - 5 min
Build a drawing with CAD - 1 hour
Build a drawing with Frenetic - 10 seconds (The New Feature)
Build a sample (Get the material and build it) - 4 hours
Order a sample with Frenetic - 1 min
If you run 20 simulations (something common), you could save the equivalent of a week of work (40 hours). You can dedicate 1 hour to optimize the losses with your own strategy and ask for an optimized sample.
The economic cycles are there, and only those who understand them to become Antifragile (Taleb book). Frenetic is Antifragile. Become Antifragile with us.
