π Hello Supergineers! Dr. Molina here! π¨βπ§
Elon Musk is in the media more than ever because of his offer to acquire Twitter.
Last week, I was talking about him with one of my best friends, who is currently working on a Space project and he recommended me the following video.
The video shows Elon Musk showing Space X facilities and talking about the design and manufacturing of their rocket engine called Raptor.
I would like to highlight his comments about the Design Vs Manufacturing of a rocket. When he was asked about the manufacturing part, he said.
I think, manufacturing is underrated and design is overrated
He continues:
The effort invested in the manufacturing system is 100 more than the invested in the design
This is exactly what happens in magnetics (and power electronics). In Academic conferences, we find very interesting ideas boosting the efficiency of the power converters, but the effort needed to build the manufacturing systems for those designs is much higher.
When we started in this industry, we hadnΒ΄t any idea about this and we created very nice designs, without manufacturability possibilities. However, after a lot of failures, we have learned that the number of Frenetic components entering production is growing exponentially in 2022!!
One of the fears of engineers is failing when asking for producing a component. Regarding magnetics, the process of having an industrial sample takes time and manufacturers ask:
-How many units do you plan to have in production?
-Maybe later 10.000 units, but Iβm evaluating this design and I just need 2-3 samples
-Iβm sorry, 2-3 units donΒ΄t make any business
This conversation was very common for me before creating Frenetic. In Frenetic, we donΒ΄t have MOQ (minimum order quantity), we encourage you to ask for samples!
Our business is focused on software, therefore, we can give you samples of one, two, or three different designs. We are so happy every time we receive a new sample request, we celebrate it!!
My quote here is:
Move your ideas to production!!
Therefore, to show you how happy we are with your samples, I will send you a nice pullover(see a picture of Lucas below) to the next user to ask for a sample in Frenetic! (Say you are a subscriber of the Newsletter)
In our training, Lucas Nicieza gave a lecture about it. To join the waiting list for the next batch of the course, follow this link.
There are 50 places and there are only 20 places left for the June batch π₯³.
