#14 π Training at EMI and The First Spanish Grammar book
The Newsletter of High Frequency folks
π Hello! Dr. Molina here! π¨βπ§
π€ Thank you for reading and welcome to the show my Newsletter.
Iβm Founder and CEO at Frenetic, where we train and create Great Magnetic Engineers π.
Training at High-Frequency Magnetics
I did a survey on Linkedin about the interest in receiving training for High-Frequency Magnetics. There werenΒ΄t a lot of participants, but 95% of them showed interest in it.
We have found, that we were already doing training with our current customers, therefore, we are preparing paid Training Sessions with High Specialists in each area (Design, Industrialization, Manufacturing, Losses calculationβ¦)
Would you be interested in this product? If so, please write an email to info@frenetic.ai with the Subject βTraining at Magneticsβ and we will contact you once the product is ready.
The first Grammar book in Spanish: Antonio de Nebrija
Antonio de Nebrija (1444-1522) was a Spanish humanist of the XV century, he wrote poetry, essaysβ¦but what I want to point out today is the story of one of his books.
In that century, studying old languages, like Latin or Greek was very common for the intellectual. These languages have grammar and rules you can find in books. But there wasnΒ΄t a Spanish Grammar. At that moment, the intellectuals didnΒ΄t think about writing Grammar for a language everybody knows π€―.
Then, Antonio decided to write the first Grammar of Spanish. Even, Queen Isabel II, asked Antonio, why do we need a grammar of a language everyone knows?
He explained, if you conquer other lands, it would be easier to teach others our language. And he wrote the book, in a very original way, without using Latin or Greek grammar as a reference.
This Grammar book represented a very innovative work.
This story reminds me of the story of Ferran AdriΓ‘. He was the most famous chef in the world in 2003 with his restaurant El Bulli.
What he did after closing the restaurant was write books of basic definitions. Nobody thought in writing a book for defining a Tomate or a soup. He becomes a researcher of the cuisine. His work is still in process of being understood.
Iβm a big fan of his work and career, I hope I can meet him someday.
Training of EMC at Frenetic
I follow my own advice. This week at Frenetic, we have received Arturo Mediano. One of the best experts in EMC applied to Power Electronics.
As much as we understand the sources and the techniques to attenuate the EMI noise, we better support we will provide to our engineers.
An interesting Tip I have learned in the course:
The importance of the PFC inductor in the EMI.
In AC/DC power converters with an active rectifier (PFC), the PFC is the noisiest stage and causes more problems to the EMI design. The main reasons:
Displacement: This stage is at the input, therefore, could be close to the EMI filter and there could be coupling the noise to the input.
The inductor high-frequency impedance.
The first point is solved with a proper mechanical design and shielding.
The second point is solved during the design stage. The inductor impedance at high frequencies has several resonances. These resonances amplify the noise at those frequencies (red points in picture 1).
Solution
Design the component with a core, that has higher losses (Higher Resistance) at higher frequencies. The resistance will flat the impedance curve, avoiding the amplification of the harmonics.
