The Flow
After “Plan B will distract you from Plan A” I bring you today;
I have read a scientific research from Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, where he talked about “The Flow”, but, What is the Flow?
The Flow is a state of mind that allows you to work on something without seeing the time pass. It’s a state of concentration that allows you to focus on something during infinite hours and forget about the rest of the world.
Typically, it’s related to artists. Painters can spend 12 hours with a single detail of their paint, trying to reach perfection.
But this is not something limited to artists, every person who loves something reaches The Flow at some point. I’m sure, you can remember a situation where you were focused on a chess game, a book, a project or simply preparing a trip, where you reached The Flow and you got something amazing or at least you entered in the deeper details of that task, understanding the context more than anyone on earth for a period of time.
I remember spending hours in the Lab during my Ph.D. looking for solutions to the problems of my Full-Bridge voltage spikes. I was so concentrated that when I finally woke up from the chair, I was alone in the Lab, and it was 9 PM.
However, during 2023 I have found it more difficult to find The Flow, probably because I have been involved in more fast-reward tasks or because I didn´t book time in my calendar to really solve a problem properly. Personally, I consider it easy to focus on something, but also, it’s also very easy to distract me with another problem. Social networks, moving to another city, to another country…a baby around…for whatever reason, I didn´t enjoy The Flow as often as I would have liked.
After a few days of analyzing why, I discovered I needed to come back to my mindfulness routines, my long walks, and to the science.
In 2024, I’m coming back to my daily meditations and to study science again, where I really enjoy The Flow.
One of the reasons I started Frenetic is because I don´t feel we are really using scientific methods in power electronic companies, especially in Magnetic Design. For that reason, I love to read articles from The Transaction of Power Electronics. These articles are probably the closest to scientific approach you can find in Power Electronics.
For example, right now, I’m studying this article:
I will make a summary once I finish. But I’m not only reading power electronics articles, as I started this NL, I also enjoy reading psychologist studies ( Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi) or about nuclear fusion vs fission.
It’s easy for me to find The Flow by reading this kind of article and trying to imagine how the future of energy will be and writing about it (I won´t share that or you will think I’m crazy).
I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you for reading.
Share with your friends will help me a lot 😊.
